Nepal

Wrecked and Urgent
Nepal was the first place we went as missionaries, it was November 2017 and we were excited and ready for what the Lord had here.
Katmandu
When we first arrived it didn't take long for a flood of emotion to hit. In just mere moments of being in Nepal I was witnessing poverty, hunger, and worship of false gods.
This was just the beginning of what would change my life forever.
Our first location was just for a few days as we waited for a team member to make it to us. We were staying at a little YWAM base right outside of the city of Katmandu. The base was placed on a cute little mountainside with plenty of houses for us to walk to so we could get to know the people. This is where we had so many of our firsts in Nepal. Our first house visit, first Nepali meal, first squatty potty, first prayer and worship as a team and our very first Masala tea! As we walked the mountainside for a tour we were asked by a family to come to their house and pray for their son. This was my first encounter with spiritual bondage. When we walked into the home we could feel the setting change from excitement to fear. It felt almost as if the air was being sucked from the room. We were given a little back story of how the boy is kept up at night by crippling fear and doesn't sleep. We all began to pray and I find myself just begging God to give this boy peace and for the boy to come to know the Lord as his savior. God moved in this house, not only in the boy, but in us as well!!
Pokhara As we weave through mountains that not only make you sick to your stomach but fear for your life as well. In what felt like an eternity we finally make it to the city of Pokhara. I am rushed with amazement from the mountains and the lake, it is stunning! Though we didn't have a ton of ministry here, when we did, it was INCREDIBLE! Our main ministry here was in a slum about 10 minutes outside of the city. These people had so little but would invite us into their homes for tea and cookies. We were able to share the Word of God with so many families and in so many homes in this slum. God did something here that will stick with me forever.
Our very last day in Pokhara as we were saying our goodbyes in the slum, a little girl came up to me and pointed to my Bible, and with the only English word she knew she said “Bible, Bible”.
This shocked me as there were little to no Christians in this slum. She pointed to a house and we hesitantly walk towards as we are hoping to not upset her parents. She points out her mom and we are asked to come in. Her mom shares with us that her daughter loves her Bible and wants to start a church in her slum one day. This brought me to tears as I saw a glimmer of hope for the people in this slum to come to know the Lord one day. The Lord was moving in this little girl for the sake of the people around her!
As we were talking and encouraging one another in broken English, a man stumbles in the one-room home, sits down and no one bats an eye. We expect that it is a grandfather or brother of the mom but when we ask if she knows him she sweetly says “no”.
With much curiosity we try to talk to the man and ask one of the translators to come talk with him. We find out that the man has traveled very far from his home to come to this slum to see a witch doctor about his leg. We ask why he came into this home and he answers that the witch doctor wasn't home to see him and he heard people talking, so, he came in. With all of this we were amazed and believe God brought him here for a reason! We asked if he had ever heard about Jesus, he answers '“no” so we ask if we can pray for his leg to be healed.
As we were praying I began to ask the Lord that if this healing would bring the man to salvation to please let it be done. When we finished we asked the man to stand up. As he stands he begins to smile and then jumps. He was healed!!!
We knew the work wasn't finished and we began to share with him the Gospel of Jesus. When we finish, he tells us that he wants to know Jesus and he wants salvation, he says to us that he is going to come back the next day with his wife so that they can learn about Jesus together.
God is so faithful!!!! His plans are so perfect!!!
Katmandu
Our last few weeks in Nepal were spent in Katmandu.
Here we visited temples, slums, orphanages and many more places to share the Lord.
One day we went to do a prayer walk through a Hindu temple. At this temple was what seemed to be thousands of people, all there to pay worship to false gods. As we were walking we came across a man laying on the ground helpless unable to move, no one stopping to help him, we realize he has been there for a very long time… He lays there with leprosy begging for money or food, begging for someone to help.
Not knowing what to do we try to talk to him, asking if we can pray. We pray for him but can barely get out words as we are wrecked by the site, by the emotion, by the knowledge that these people are living for gods that they have to appease, that most of them will never come to know the Lord as their Savior, that they will never know freedom. I am unable to go on, I walk away feeling defeated and hopeless.
This is the exact moment that I realize I will never do anything else for the rest of my life, that I am forever now dedicated to urgently sharing the Lord with others.
From Nepal I was left Wrecked and Urgent…
